Check out this interview by The Adelphi Kitchen. “The Adelphi Kitchen” is a great book for young students to read with an adult’s perspective. It is very engaging, with entertaining stories about the life of the famous chef. This book gives great insight into what makes a great chef and how to be one.

I liked that this book was not really a cookbook, but more of an overall perspective on being a great chef. It gave some practical tips and advice as well as recipes. However, much of that information can easily be found elsewhere and in other books. It does give excellent advice on how to prepare for the interview, and it stressed the importance of being prepared and knowing what you are going to say. It also stressed the importance of being confident and knowing what you want to say.

Let’s start at the beginning; you need to have a game plan of sorts. What will you say and what do you look for in the prospective chef? It’s not enough to say they are good looking. They also need to be able to express themselves clearly, and be able to convey a message to you easily and clearly. A well prepared chef should also be able to get their point across to you easily and clearly.

Next, you need to know yourself. What are your strengths and weaknesses? How well do you communicate those strengths and weaknesses? What do you enjoy eating? Do you like to experiment with new things? These are all questions to ask yourself when figuring out who you are as a person and what kind of chef you might want to be.

It’s also important to remember to relax and be comfortable when doing an interview. You may have an exceptional resume and a job waiting for you. But it doesn’t matter if you don’t feel confident, you won’t get the job.

Dress comfortably, even if it’s in a pair of sweatpants. Don’t over-dress or you’ll come off as stiff and robotic. Look professional and get used to being interviewed for this job. Don’t forget to bring a good attitude. And most of all, just have fun.

During your first interview, don’t get nervous. If there is a question that you’re not sure about, ask it. For example, one of our waiters had to ask our chef one time how long it would take to prepare his meal. He thought we were going to ask him how long it takes to clean a whole plate of food, so he asked that instead. You never know what questions will come up!

Also, don’t get discouraged if you don’t get hired right away. Our chefs go through a lot of training, from start to finish. Sometimes they don’t get the job on their first try because they didn’t apply the best of their effort. We have also had chef’s who had a bad experience and then got another job. That’s life.

So don’t let your worries about not getting the job stop you from giving it your best shot. The worst that can happen is that you’ll be back next year. If anything, you can give it your best shot and see what happens. Keep a positive attitude and don’t let anyone bring down your game. This is your chance to show the world what you can do! Don’t blow it.
